11-year-old boy wins Scottish soccer's goal of month award

GLASGOW, Scotland (AP) — Scottish football's goal of the month award has been given to an 11-year-old boy.
Celtic fan Jay Beatty, who has Down's Syndrome, won 97 percent of the vote in the Scottish Professional Football League's online competition for January. Jay netted a penalty on the pitch during the break of Celtic's 2-0 win at Hamilton on Jan. 17 after being invited to the game as a guest of the home team.
Jay's first moment of fame came when then-Celtic player Georgios Samaras picked him out of the crowd during the Glasgow club's title-winning lap of honor last season. The Greece striker, who now plays for Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia, said in a video: "Jay, my friend, me and you are the same now — scoring goals."
