Benfica draws 1-1 at Sporting after Jardel's late equalizer

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — Benfica defender Jardel scored in injury time to salvage a 1-1 draw at Sporting Lisbon in the capital city derby on Sunday.

The result left defending champion Benfica four points ahead of FC Porto, which won 2-0 win at Moreirense on Saturday. Sporting's Jefferson had struck what appeared to be the late winner with four minutes to play when he scored from a rebound.But Jardel leveled in Benfica's last push looking for an equalizer. Sporting, whose six-game winning streak ended, remained seven points behind in third place. Braga won 2-0 at Estoril to climb into fourth, leapfrogging Guimaraes after it lost 1-0 to Belenenses.
